In this article the early German Romanticism of the 1790s is counter posed, as a concrete historical phenomenon, to the reception history of this phenomenon in the 19 th and the 20 th centuries. The thinking and the discourse of the early Romanticism was substantially reduced and misunderstood during both centuries under the influence of the European Positivism and Neo-Positivism. In the Soviet Russia this influence was even harder due to the impoverishing pressure of the ideology. As a result, the complex and inter-discipline phenomenon of Romanticism was disrupted and artificially divided into “revolutionary” and “reactionary”, on one hand, and “philosophical” and “philological”, on the other. In the 21 st century there seem to appear new possibilities, after the end of the New times, of overcoming the errors of the previous periods in understanding and evaluating the early German Romanticism and Romanticism at large.
