Abstract

The Gothic tradition, as well as the genre dimension of the novellism, are refracted in many of Pushkin’s texts in different ways, and not only narrative ones. In this regard, the article examines “Boris Godunov”, “Poltava”, “The Shot”, “The Queen of Spades”. Having a desire to teach the reader a moral lesson, Pushkin at the same time comes to the aestheticization of the history, which is close to Potocky and Gogol. In this regard, Pushkin develops an entertaining and attentive attitude to more or less exceptional personalities. In contrast to the prevalence of moralism in Gogol’s version of the novella and the prevalence of action over sense in Potocky’s version, Pushkin has a noticeable balance of action and sense. Pushkin and Gogol used a version of the novella genre close to Cervantes, with a noticeable philosophizing of the artistic sense.
