Correlating the character of the folk-laughing word by Gogol and Rabelais in a great historical time, M.M. Bakhtin discovers in both writers that the same thing belongs to two cultural and semantic spheres. Mutual comic in the mirror of each other introduces these spheres into the zone of contact and interaction. At the same time, the romantic component of Gogol’s perception of magically personified nature determined in his early cycles the lyrical drama of the popular attitude towards it. Therefore, unlike Rabelais, Gogol’s laughing principle combines culture and nature in one things in the field of blissful national existence on the border with mother earth, protecting from irrevocable deepening into it.
