The history of the reception of M.M. Bakhtin’s texts in the second half of the 20th – early 21st century is an important part of modern Bakhtin studies. The article deals with the problem of the early reception of the book “Problems of Dostoevsky’s Poetics” in the Western consciousness of the 1960–1970s. On the example of the individual trajectories of the reception of D.I. Chizhevsky, J. Kristeva, and R. Wellek, the main ways in which Bakhtin’s book was perceived by representatives of the older, middle, and younger generations of Western philologists are shown; the specifics of the approaches of each of the scholars presented in the article are revealed; a conclusion is drawn as to what trends emerged in these two decades, and how the reception of the book on Dostoevsky continued in the following years.
