Georgy Ivanov’s creativity – verses, memoirs and other works – are considered in the context of his life and career of a writer. Staying abroad forced him to see in a new way both his own past, and the past of St. Petersburg, the past of the Russian Empire. The verses which made Georgy Ivanov one of the most significant poets of the Russian abroad appeared almost along with his memoirs. At the same time his contemporaries in «The St. Petersburg winters» become true characters. Ivanov is interested not so much in real events but in images generated by this particular space – St. Petersburg of the 1910th. Poems, the prosaic poem «Atom Disintegration», the essay «Sunset over St. Petersburg» are full of quotations which provide the deep historical and cultural context. This specific artistry in memoirs and a multidimensional quote turn Georgy Ivanov into the creator of the one more myth of St. Petersburg.
