The article is devoted to the influence that the course of a
lecture on political economy delivered by Professor Alexander Ivanovich
Chivilyov at Moscow University had on a worldview of Afanasy Fet. It is
proved that the poet's ideas about the land as a form of capital, essentially no different from any other type of capital, were formed under his influence. Such views led Fet to farming.
