Maupassant. New perspectives

Тимашёва O.B.

Abstract

Maupassant, as a short story writer and a novelist, is being discussed in three parts of this article in contexts unexpected for traditional reviews of his writing, through the spectacle of the plot and devices of expressiveness (The Chair Mender – La Rampailleuse, a short story), as an experience of «close reading» (Bel-Ami, a novel) and the analysis of the category of «space» (Pierre and Jean, a novel).

Keywords

short story genre; plot; composition; devices of expressiveness; metaphor; close reading; the notion of personality; career novel; space; externality.
