The article, on the one hand, summarises the intermediate results of research in the field of the genesis of category of fiction’s authorship carried out over the last decade, and, on the other hand, outlines the prospects for work in the field of both the genesis and the history of this category, which is proposed to be built on the basis of Bakhtin’s ideas about the relationship between the author and the hero in a work of fiction. As a link between the genesis (prehistory) and the history of authorship, the central part of the New Testament – the Four Gospels – is considered, which forms the model of literary and artistic authorship of the Renaissance and Modern Time, a model that influenced all fiction through its ideal embodiment in the work and principles of authorship formation of William Shakespeare.
