Abstract

The article examines Pushkin and Dante’s reminiscences and associations mainly in such poems by Joseph Brodsky as “Poems in April” and “Menuet”. Besides, both the superficial and deep meanings of these associations are explored, which lead to the understanding of the peculiarities of Joseph Brodsky’s artistic thinking as a whole. The article also considers the transformation of the motifs of Pushkin’s “The Prophet” in the poem “Strophes”, connected with the events of the poet’s personal life, and interprets the final chapter of the cycle “New Stanzas to Augusta” as a declaration of the search for one’s own poetic language.
