Abstract

The article examines the history of the creation and publication of M.M. Prishvin’s short story “The Stakhanovite Duckling” (the final title is “‘The Inventor’”) in connection with the socio-political and literary situation of the 1930 s, as well as in the context of the philosophy and poetics of H.K. Andersen’s fairy tales, to which the writer returned throughout his entire career. Within the problem of the article the image of a duck in Prishvin’s work is analyzed which for the writer was a bird that connected the world of nature and the world of people. This meaning is concentrated in his tiny story for children which was originally published in an edition intended for teachers and literary critics. The article proposes to consider the story “‘The Inventor’” as a microcosm of Prishvin’s creativity (in accordance with the idea of M.M. Bakhtin about the microcosm of a writer).
