Abstract
The article examines the selected pages of M. Prishvin’s book “The Bun” that vividly depict the Murman coast. The essence of Murman is captured through the portrayal of Russian Pomors, framed by the rugged rocks of the Arctic Ocean. Prishvin directs readers’ attention to the unique aspects of cod fishing on the Murman coast, providing the description of life and work of the Pomors alongside the Norwegians. The article analyses Prishvin’s artistic narrative of Murman, shedding light on the author’s perspective on the hard work and recreational activities of Russian industrialists.
Special emphasis is given to M. Prishvin’s critical view on the fishing boats used by the Pomors. The article regards also the works of S. Herberstein, K. Sluchevsky and A. Engelhardt dedicated to the Murman coast.
