Krylov's fable «The Crow and the Fox» and the poem of Joseph Brodsky «Developing Krylov»

Ranchin A.M.

Abstract

The article discusses the poem of Joseph Brodsky «Developing Krylov». The analysis demonstrates, that Brodsky writes his work, starting from Krylov's fable «The Crow and the Fox», reinterpreting it. From the Krylov fable of Brodsky borrowed the principle of abstraction, a detached view of the life situation. Brodsky «rewrites» Krylov's text in accordance with the poetic setting characteristics of the Baroque. The reception of Krylov's fable is combined with the reception of poetic principles inherent in John Donne's poetry.
