About the Journal

Literaturovedcheskii zhurnal = The Journal of Literary History and Theory is a peer-reviewed open access academic periodical established and published by the Institute of Scientific Information for Social Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Published since 1993 (till 2000 under the title Rossiiskii literaturovedcheskii zhurnal, 4 issues per year (since 2020).

The journal is devoted to the study of the history of Russian and world literature (from the ancient times to the end of the 20th century), literary theory, comparative criticism, the history of literary studies, and bibliography (the contents of literary periodicals of the 18–19th centuries, the bibliographies of less known writers of the past, etc.). The journal also presents the archive materials and unrepublished but scientifically valuable literary texts accompanied by an introductory note and comments.

Each issue opens with a main heading devoted to the special literary date (anniversary of a writer or of a particular literary text) or to the concrete scholarly question. The main heading could also present the materials of a scholarly conference. Besides there are the permanent and the optional subject headings in the journal.

Some other optional subject headings could be added should the need arise. There is also a special editorial section "Notes of the Learned Cat" which presents the free-form comments on the topical events and more.

The journal is addressed to the international audience and intends to publish the research and review articles of Russian- and English-language scholars from all over the world. The main objective of the journal is to promote scholarly exchange and international cooperation in philology. All methods and viewpoints are welcomed, provided they contribute new and original insights to the field.

The published materials’ compliance with the internationally recognized criteria of academic relevance is provided by the obligatory process of double-blind peer review carried out by authoritative experts in their particular fields of philological knowledge – both the members of the Editorial Board, and other invited experts.

Publication fee is not charged, royalties are not being paid.

The journal has both paper and electronic version. The Internet version is a full-text analogue of the print copy and is available in the public domain on: elibrary.ru and cyberleninka.ru (since 2001).

Literaturovedcheskii zhurnal = The Journal of Literary History and Theory is a peer-reviewed open access periodical devoted to the history of Russian and world literature, literary theory, Russian and foreign literary relations, history of literary criticism, and bibliography.

The journal is addressed to the international professional audience in the field of literary studies – both to young scholars and to authoritative experts, as well as to the readers interested in the recent achievements in philology. The main objective of the journal is to promote scholarly exchange and international cooperation in the field.

The journal intends to publish the research and review articles of Russian- and English-language scholars from all over the world. All methods and viewpoints are welcomed, provided they contribute new and original insights to the field.
